Reyna Roberts Reflects On Her Life-Changing Moment Singing On Beyoncé’S “Blackbiird”

Reyna Roberts describes singing on Beyoncé’s track “Blackbiird” as a moment she’s “been praying for my entire life.” In an exclusive interview for Black History Month, the country artist, 27, shared her excitement, saying, “I’m not even being dramatic. I always believed it would happen one day, but I didn’t know when.”

She added, “I’ve always said I would work with Beyoncé, Chris Stapleton, and other artists who inspired me. I just didn’t know when it would come true.”

Roberts was one of the featured artists on “Blackbiird,” a remake of The Beatles classic, included in Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album. The album won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2025. Roberts also performed live with Beyoncé during the NFL halftime show on Christmas Day last year.

The singer expressed her gratitude for being part of something so significant. “It was incredible to be a part of [Beyoncé’s] legacy,” she said. “It was everything I hoped for and imagined.”

Beyoncé has always been Roberts’ top inspiration. She explained, “She’s always been my No. 1 favorite artist in the world.”

Now that Roberts has fulfilled her dream of working with Beyoncé, she’s focused on another goal: collaborating with Chris Stapleton. “I absolutely adore him,” she said. “One of my dreams is to perform with him, hopefully go on tour, or make music together. He’s one of the reasons I wanted to be in country music.”

Stapleton’s music deeply influenced Roberts’ songwriting. “His albums inspired me to write more country and country-rock songs,” she said. “His voice and artistry had such an impact on me.”

Although Roberts hasn’t yet had the chance to collaborate with Stapleton, she did meet the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer. “He was so kind and genuine,” she recalled. “Everyone who has inspired me has been absolutely wonderful.”

As a Black woman in country music, Roberts reflected on the support she’s received from stars like Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Jamey Johnson. “None of them knew me personally, but they saw my talent and gave me a chance,” she said.

However, Roberts acknowledges that the country music industry still has “a lot of work to do” in terms of inclusivity. She believes Beyoncé’s success in the genre shows positive progress. “Look at all Beyoncé has done and the way people have responded to her,” Roberts said. “We still have a lot of changes to make, but we’re further along than before.”
