Mötley Crüe’s lead vocalist Vince Neil was not aboard his private jet when it collided with another aircraft at Scottsdale Airport in Arizona on Monday, February 10. The crash, which resulted in one fatality and several injuries, is under investigation by authorities.
In a statement shared hours after the crash, Neil’s representative, Worrick Robinson, IV, confirmed that Neil’s Learjet was attempting to land when it veered off the runway and struck a stationary plane. The reason for the deviation remains unknown at this time.
Neil’s aircraft, a 35A model, had two pilots and two passengers on board at the time of the incident. Although details are limited, the statement emphasized that an investigation is ongoing, and further information will be made available as the situation unfolds.
“Mr. Neil’s thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, and he is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today,” Robinson said in the statement.
Earlier, a deleted social media post from the band indicated that Neil’s girlfriend and her friend were on board and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the pilot of the aircraft was confirmed dead, while the co-pilot and passengers are receiving medical care at nearby hospitals.
Scottsdale authorities confirmed the fatality during a press briefing, and the Scottsdale Airport runway was closed indefinitely following the incident. Kelli Kuester, aviation planning coordinator at the airport, later explained that the crash occurred after the plane’s left landing gear failed.
Scottsdale Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Dave Folio reported that five people were involved in the crash, with one person pronounced dead at the scene. He also shared that the fire department was working to extricate another person still trapped on board.
In a follow-up news briefing, Kuester elaborated on the cause, stating that the crash took place after the plane’s landing gear malfunctioned, causing the aircraft to skid before colliding with the parked jet.
The investigation into the crash continues as authorities work to determine the full scope of the incident. Video footage posted by AZCentral shows the dramatic moments as the landing plane buckled and skidded across the runway, ultimately colliding with the other jet.
