Carnie Wilson, the talented singer from the iconic pop trio Wilson Phillips, is fiercely defending her daughter, Lola Bonfiglio, after harsh criticism followed her “American Idol” audition.
“We’re human, and the internet is so cruel,” Wilson shared at the Music of the ‘90s Panel, speaking out against the hate, according to People. “The comments are really pissing me off and I can’t respond.”
Lola Bonfiglio, Wilson’s daughter, made her mark during the March 23 episode of American Idol, alongside her famous family—Carnie, her aunt Wendy Wilson, and her father, Rob Bonfiglio.
The family showcased their musical bond, performing Wilson Phillips’ classic “Hold On” before Lola’s solo audition. She sang “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves for judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, earning herself a golden ticket to Hollywood Week.
Despite the success, some fans expressed their dissatisfaction, accusing Bonfiglio of advancing due to nepotism. Wilson, however, had a powerful retort. “Would you encourage a doctor’s son not to be a doctor?” she countered, defending her daughter’s dream. “Lola wants to be a singer, and they say these terrible things. And she was so hurt.”
With a heartfelt defense, Wilson reminded everyone that she and Lola are “real people with real hearts and souls,” taking a stand against online cruelty.
