Grammy-nominated R&B singer Jaheim Hoagland, known for hits like “Just in Case” and “Put That Woman First,” has been charged with six counts of animal cruelty following his arrest on May 1 in Buckhead, Atlanta.
The charges relate to allegations that he failed to provide proper food, water, ventilation, and sanitary conditions for six dogs found in his care.
The Fulton County Animal Control officers were first alerted on April 27 when a malnourished dog was spotted wandering in a parking lot. When officers approached, Jaheim reportedly reacted aggressively, insisting the dog was just outside while he worked on his RV.
The next day, officers returned and found the dog severely emaciated, with ribs protruding through its skin. Jaheim claimed the dog was only 11 months old and was fed regularly, but the dog’s condition raised serious concerns.
On May 1, police executed a search warrant on Jaheim’s RV and found six dogs, including four pit bulls, a French bulldog, and a mixed-breed hound. All the dogs were removed and taken to the Fulton County Animal Control shelter for care. The dogs are named Tweet, Tip, Taka, Tink, Timber, and Tanger.
This is not Jaheim’s first run-in with animal cruelty charges. In 2021, he was arrested in New Jersey after authorities discovered 15 dogs living in deplorable conditions at his home. One dog was found unresponsive in a water-filled crate and had to be euthanized, while others were emaciated and lacked access to food and water.
Jaheim was released on a $35,000 bond the day after his Atlanta arrest. As of now, it is unclear if he has hired a defense attorney. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 2 to face the new charges.
