Wynonna Judd, the renowned 60 – year – old country star, is baring her soul about a deeply personal and tragic event that has had a profound impact on her life, particularly her fashion choices.
In the upcoming docuseries The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, set to air on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 on Lifetime at 8 p.m.
ET/PT, Judd delves into the harrowing experience of being allegedly molested at the tender age of 12, an incident she also detailed in her 2005 memoir Coming Home to Myself.
Judd shared in the docuseries, “I was molested at 12, so my whole sexuality thing was really stamped out because I just, at 12, shut down. So, I carried the weight, both literally and figuratively.” She went on to explain how this trauma influenced her fashion sense over the years.
“I mean, if you look at the clothes of The Judds, my clothes are up to here and here, like Amish. I’m Amish, basically. I’m wearing clothes to cover, not expose — to this day,” she said, gesturing with her hands to indicate that her clothing covers her up to her neck.
Don Potter, The Judds’ long – standing producer and collaborator, noted that Wynonna was “deathly afraid of being lusted after” and didn’t want to be perceived as “attractive”.
Judd further elaborated on how difficult it was for her when men followed her mother home due to her mother’s beauty. “That was always really hard for me because I saw it coming at me,” she admitted.
While Naomi Judd‘s former manager Kodi Chandler expressed uncertainty about whether Naomi was aware of the alleged incident, as he wasn’t sure if he’d ever read Judd’s book, the focus of the docuseries remains on the Judd family’s story.
