Miley Cyrus just turned one of the hardest moments in her life into something full of light and hope.
The pop superstar gave fans a sneak peek at her upcoming visual album *Something Beautiful* at a special Spotify event at Metrograph in New York City. During a heartfelt Q\&A, the 32-year-old singer opened up about losing her Malibu home in the 2018 California wildfires — and why she now sees that painful event as a turning point in her life.
“When my house burned down, that was the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life, actually,” Miley said in response to a question from longtime fan Matt Peterson about what advice she’d give her younger self.
The home she lost was the one she shared with her ex-husband, actor Liam Hemsworth. Miley said the fire didn’t just take her house — it also forced her to rebuild her life in a more meaningful way.
“Losing everything and being able to rebuild… to be purposeful and choose every piece that I’m gonna collect — and also just about the people in my life — it changed everything,” she shared. “A lot of my relationships also burned down, and that led me to so much magic and gratitude.”
Miley and Liam’s house burned in November 2018 during the Woolsey Fire. The couple married a month later, but they split in August 2019.
Looking back, Miley said she would tell her younger self to “appreciate those darker times because… they are only leading you into the light.”
Miley was glowing as she stood in front of a packed room of fans, sharing personal stories and deep feelings. Wearing a chic black outfit, she looked calm, confident, and connected with the crowd.
She said this new album, *Something Beautiful*, means a lot to her — and she hopes fans will feel that through the music. “This album has to start with me loving it,” Miley explained. “And then the love that I have for it, whether you know it or not, it’s gonna be coming through the speakers when you’re listening.”
The *Flowers* and *End of the World* singer also got emotional talking about the bond she shares with her fans, many of whom have followed her journey since *Hannah Montana*.
“People say we grew up together, and we really did,” Miley said with a smile. “It’s cool to be in a room full of people I’ve never met… and you’re not that strange.”
She added, “We’re all a little strange, but that’s what’s made us hold on to the relationship we have.”
Miley even joked about how close her fans are to her personal life, saying, “Remember when my house burned down? And you guys are like, ‘Yeah.’ Remember when my fish died? ‘Yeah.’”
She was referring to her late pet fish, Pablow, who inspired her 2015 song “Pablow the Blowfish.” “Most people don’t have millions of people that are like, ‘Sorry about your fish,’” she laughed. “But it’s so nice that I do.”
Miley’s visual album *Something Beautiful* will be released on May 30. The companion film will premiere at the Tribeca Festival in New York City on June 6.
If the album is anything like her speech at the event — honest, emotional, and full of love — fans are in for something truly special.
