Flavor Flav just made history on The Masked Singer by becoming the first contestant in 13 seasons to perform a Taylor Swift song, and he’s beyond thrilled with the honor.
Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly after his elimination on the March 13 episode, the iconic rapper revealed just how significant this moment was, especially since the show’s producers have never been able to secure a Taylor Swift song for the competition until now.
“I gotta thank Taylor Swift and her team for clearing that song,” said the 65-year-old Public Enemy co-founder. “They cleared it because of me, and let me tell you, I doubt they’ll clear another one—unless I come back, of course!”
Flavor Flav may not have picked the song, but as fate would have it, the track he performed—“Bad Blood” from Swift’s 1989 album—was his absolute favorite. “That’s the first song that really helped me identify who Taylor Swift is,” he explained.
“She writes about her life experiences, and those experiences speak to millions of people, including me. That’s why I support her so hard. She’s one of the most important artists of our time.”
Flav went on to sing Swift’s praises, even recalling the mind-blowing moment when her concert in Seattle caused an earthquake: “Who else can do that? That’s why she’s so important, and why I proudly call myself ‘King Swiftie’—that name came from the Swifties themselves!”
Even though Flav hasn’t heard from Swift about his performance yet, he’s confident she’ll have only good things to say. “I think she’ll love it,” he said. “I would never, ever make my girl look bad. As much as I love her, I’ve got to represent the best—and she is the best!”
Bringing his trademark energy to The Masked Singer, Flav also shared his philosophy on life: “I always want people to remember me for the good times, not the bad,” he said. “Even on my tough days, I make sure to give fans the best I’ve got.”
With his infectious positivity and undeniable love for Taylor Swift, Flavor Flav has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on The Masked Singer. Now, the question remains: will Taylor Swift herself have something special to say about his unforgettable performance?
