Dolly Parton revealed that she had one crucial rule for Sabrina Carpenter before collaborating on the “Please, Please, Please” remix.
In an interview with Knox News, Parton stated, “I told her, I said, ‘Now, I don’t cuss. I don’t make fun of Jesus. I don’t talk bad about God, and I don’t say dirty words on camera, but known to if I get mad enough.'” This led to Carpenter removing the explicit phrase “motherf—er” from the chorus, replacing it with “I beg you, don’t embarrass me like the others”.
Carpenter released the remix as part of her album “Short n’ Sweet” deluxe edition on February 14. She expressed her admiration for Parton, saying, “Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!! I am so honored to have one of my biggest idols on a song that means so much to me”.
Parton praised Carpenter’s character, noting she was “so sweet.” The collaboration marked a creative fusion of styles, with Parton enjoying her freedom to collaborate with various artists, including Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus.
The music video for “Please, Please, Please” featured Parton and Carpenter bonding in a vintage setting, complete with a nod to Carpenter’s past relationships.
