Benny Blanco Reacts With Humor After Being Mistaken For Bad Bunny At The Oscars

Music producer Benny Blanco found himself in an unexpected spotlight recently—when he was mistaken for global music sensation Bad Bunny. The mix-up happened during the Oscars, and Blanco shared his lighthearted reaction during his April 7 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Host Jennifer Hudson brought up the Oscars mishap, where a photo of Blanco and his fiancée, pop star Selena Gomez, was mistakenly labeled “Selena Gomez and Bad Bunny” on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of The Academy. The post was quickly corrected, but not before screenshots of the original error spread online.

Blanco, 37, laughed off the moment. “They did?” he said with surprise. “I like that! What do you mean? He’s so hot! I’ll take it.”

Looking at a picture of Bad Bunny, the producer joked, “Look at how pretty he is — are you kidding? Yeah, I’m Bad Bunny now.”

Blanco’s appearance on the show came just weeks after the release of his new collaborative album with Gomez, I Said I Love You First, which dropped on March 21. The album has offered fans an intimate glimpse into the couple’s creative and romantic bond.

In a recent episode of Spotify’s Countdown To series, Gomez, 32, revealed that working on music with Blanco felt like sharing her personal journal. “I was just constantly writing whatever you said, wherever we were,” Blanco said, explaining how their conversations inspired many of the album’s lyrics. “Sometimes you’d be saying something really important, and I’d open my phone and write it down.”

Gomez added with a laugh, “I could just sit there and talk… it didn’t bother me, if that’s what you’re asking.”

The couple, who got engaged in December 2024, have been open about putting their music before wedding planning. Speaking to Rolling Stone in March, Blanco joked, “I think every day she’s planned a new wedding in her head. We’re very much ‘take it one day at a time’-type of people.”

Gomez echoed his sentiments, emphasizing that their focus is on the music. “I feel like this is such a special time. We’re pouring our hearts into this album and showing the world how we really feel,” she said.

According to a press release, I Said I Love You First “gives fans a unique window into their relationship,” chronicling their journey from strangers to soulmates and looking ahead to their future.

“This album came together organically as a direct result of the comfort they felt when working together,” the release explained. “It’s a story of love—before they met, while they fell for each other, and the life they’re dreaming of ahead.”
