Joey Bada$$ and Serayah are preparing to welcome their first child together — a baby boy.
In a new interview with Essence published Thursday, May 22, Serayah, 29, confirmed the exciting news. “I’m great, honestly. At the finish line,” she shared, reflecting on her pregnancy journey.
The singer and actress revealed that one of the earliest signs she was pregnant was her sudden aversion to certain foods. “I was on set and they brought fried chicken for the cast and crew. The smell hit me before I even saw it, and I was just repulsed,” she recalled. “I thought, why does this smell so bad to me?”
Joey Bada$$, 30, and Serayah first met in 2021 through mutual friends. The couple made their relationship public in 2023. Joey, a rapper and actor known for roles in Mr. Robot and Power Book III: Raising Kanan, said he was instantly drawn to Serayah.
“I saw her and thought, ‘Wow, I’ve never seen a woman so beautiful,’” he said. “She was strikingly gorgeous. Her energy was radiating.”
Serayah shared a similar memory of their first meeting. “He was the most mysterious person I’ve ever met,” she said. “There was something very magnetizing about him. He spoke loudly without even saying a word.”
Though they initially crossed paths in 2021, the two didn’t reconnect until a year later. Their romance became public in 2023.
Joey is also the father of a seven-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. In 2021, he openly described himself as polyamorous. However, meeting Serayah changed his view on relationships.
“At that time in my life, I was living as a bachelor. Polyamory made sense for me then,” he explained. “But I met Ray, bought a home, and everything shifted. Now, I’m fully committed to a monogamous relationship. I support others who choose polyamory, but this is what feels right for me now.”
The couple’s journey — from a chance meeting to expecting their first child together — marks a new chapter in both of their lives.
