Grimes just made a major revelation about her health, sharing that she was recently diagnosed with both autism and ADHD. The Genesis singer, 37, opened up about her diagnosis in a lengthy March 23 post on X, where she also criticized certain mental health discussions on social media.
“Got diagnosed w ADHD / autism this year and realized I’m prob dyslexic which is why I can’t spell at all without spellcheck,” she wrote.
Reflecting on how an earlier diagnosis could have changed her life, Grimes admitted she might have “worked less hard, been on drugs,” and that her childhood obsessions might have been seen as “pathological.” However, she added that overcoming her struggles ultimately shaped her success.
The singer, born Claire Elise Boucher, also pointed out that her ADHD symptoms were “infinitely worse” when she wasn’t reading regularly. She took issue with an X user’s claim that “excessive reading” in children is a sign of dissociation, calling it a “dark” and harmful perspective.
Grimes then slammed the rise of what she called an “uninformed social media mental health subculture,” warning that some online discussions are “explicitly anti-civilizational” and could make people’s conditions worse.
This isn’t the first time Grimes has spoken about her unusual health and wellness choices. In 2019, she claimed to have undergone an experimental procedure that removed part of her eyeball and replaced it with an orange polymer to combat seasonal depression.
Aside from her health revelations, the mother of three—who shares her children with billionaire Elon Musk—recently made headlines for criticizing Musk’s decision to bring their son, X Æ A-Xii, to the Oval Office. She has since spoken out about her fight to keep their children out of the public eye, revealing she has “begged” Musk and even pursued “legal recourse” to protect their privacy.
“We are in the Wild West of information content and the dismantling of privacy, and it’s very concerning,” she warned.
