In the post, Kesha shared a video of herself wearing a black hoodie, gazing at the camera, with the catchy chorus of her 2010 smash hit playing in the background. On top of the video, she added the text: “TikTok may be temporary, but TiK ToK is forever.” She captioned it with a peace sign emoji and a black heart emoji, sending fans into a frenzy.
Her post quickly gained attention from fellow celebrities, including Natasha Bedingfield, who commented, “Exactly!!!” and Hayley Kiyoko, who dubbed Kesha an “icon.” Fans also had fun in the comments, calling Kesha the “original Queen of TikTok,” with one commenting, “There will ALWAYS be the one and ONLY Tik Tok!” and another writing, “Tik Tok was here before and it will still be here after TikTok .”
The pop anthem TiK ToK debuted in 2010, spending an impressive nine weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and continues to resonate in pop culture. Last year, Kesha made headlines when she changed the first line of the song, which originally referenced Sean “Diddy” Combs, amid the ongoing allegations against him. The line was altered to say, “Wake up in the morning feeling like, f— P. Diddy!” during a Coachella performance with Reneé Rapp.
In an August 2024 post on X, Kesha opened up about the meaning behind TiK ToK and how it represents a youthful, carefree side of herself that she now fiercely protects. “That girl was naïve and wild and playful,” she reflected, adding, “This song eternalizes a side of myself that I love very much.”
