Rihanna is speaking out against the use of AI to mimic her voice.
On February 5, the 36-year-old singer took to Instagram to comment on a video titled “Rihanna’s Most Expensive Purchases” posted by @thescrolltv. The video, uploaded on January 31, featured a voiceover that sounded like Rihanna but was actually created using AI.
“Who tf is this talking??!” Rihanna wrote in her comment. The account pinned her response, drawing attention to the situation.
A week earlier, a user had already pointed out that the voice in the video was AI-generated. @thescrolltv confirmed the claim, stating, “yes it is.”
The video used audio from a press conference during Rihanna’s 2023 Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime show, making it appear as though she was discussing her lavish purchases instead of her halftime performance. The caption highlighted Rihanna’s extravagant lifestyle, mentioning her $13.8 million Beverly Hills mansion and a $1 million crystal-embellished piano by Bösendorfer.
This is not the first time a celebrity has addressed AI technology being used to imitate their likeness.
In August 2024, Tom Hanks warned fans about fake ads using his name, voice, and image without his permission. Hanks, 68, called the ads fraudulent and made it clear he had no involvement with them.
Scarlett Johansson also took legal action in November 2023, sending a cease-and-desist letter to Lisa AI after the app used her voice and image for a commercial without consent.
Meanwhile, Rihanna is preparing for her voice role as Smurfette in the upcoming 2025 Smurfs movie. A trailer released on February 6 confirmed that new music from the superstar will be featured on the film’s soundtrack.
