Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez are bringing their personal love story to life through music. Ahead of the release of their highly anticipated collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, the couple has shared rare insights into their creative process, revealing how their deep connection naturally shaped the album’s emotional core.
In a recent conversation for Spotify’s First Look series, Gomez, 32, and Blanco, 37, reflected on how their everyday conversations evolved into powerful lyrics. “We never sat down and said, ‘What are we going to write?’” Gomez explained. “It was more about sharing what was on our minds, what we were feeling.”
Blanco humorously described himself as Gomez’s “personal journal,” constantly jotting down meaningful moments. “Sometimes she’d say something really deep, and I’d quietly grab my phone and think, ‘That’s a perfect line for a song,’” he admitted.
The album’s first three singles—”Scared of Loving You” (Feb. 13), “Call Me When You Break Up” featuring Gracie Abrams (Feb. 21), and “Sunset Blvd.” (March 14)—have already resonated with fans, setting the stage for an album that offers an unfiltered glimpse into their journey.
More than just a collection of songs, I Said I Love You First serves as a heartfelt chronicle of their relationship—before they met, falling in love, and dreaming about the future. “This album came together naturally, driven by the comfort and trust we have when creating together,” the couple shared.
Despite their recent engagement in December 2024, wedding planning has taken a backseat to their passion for music. “Every day she plans a new wedding in her head,” Blanco joked to Rolling Stone. “But we’re still soaking in this moment.”
Gomez added, “Right now, I just want to pour everything into this album and share our story with the world.”
I Said I Love You First drops on Friday, March 21, promising fans an authentic and deeply personal experience.
