Marvel fans are scratching their heads after the Avengers: Doomsday cast was unveiled. While almost 30 stars were announced, some major Marvel heroes were nowhere to be found.
One big shock? Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, was not listed. Fans were expecting him to reprise his role, especially with his solo Spider-Man movie coming in 2026. So why the snub?
Also missing from the lineup are some fan favorites, including Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye are also absent.
Fans were also buzzing about Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, especially after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. But neither made the cut, leaving fans wondering if there’s a bigger surprise waiting.
And what about Chris Evans? Reports had hinted that Captain America would return, but his name was not on the list either. Are we being left hanging on purpose?
Marvel isn’t ruling out surprises, though. “There’s always room for more,” the studio teased on a video of the cast announcement. Could these missing stars show up unannounced?
Another theory? Some of these beloved characters may be saving themselves for Avengers: Secret Wars, which will follow Doomsday in 2027. After all, remember how some heroes were absent from Infinity War but returned for Endgame?
In a twist, Cumberbatch recently contradicted earlier statements about not appearing in Doomsday, saying, “I got that wrong, I am in the next one.” Looks like there might still be some confusion about who’s in and who’s out.
Elizabeth Olsen confirmed that she won’t be part of either Doomsday or Secret Wars, so don’t expect Scarlet Witch to make a return anytime soon.
One more possibility? The absence of certain characters could hint that Doomsday is shifting focus to the X-Men. Several original X-Men stars, like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, are confirmed to return.
With such a heavy X-Men presence, could this movie be bridging universes? Fans are buzzing with theories, and it seems Marvel is keeping plenty of secrets for now.
For the missing Marvel stars, don’t worry! If they’re not in Doomsday, they’ll likely be back soon enough. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026, and Secret Wars follows in 2027.
Fans won’t have to wait too long to see their favorite heroes again!
