Benny Blanco knew exactly what he wanted in a partner — and it wasn’t just a whim.
On March 24, Benny and his fiancée Selena Gomez sat down with Jay Shetty on On Purpose, where Benny spilled the tea about his pre-Selena love life.
Before meeting the “Single Soon” singer, Benny, 37, struggled to find his perfect match. “I was a guy in L.A. trying to find the one, but I wasn’t looking in the right places,” he confessed.
“I wanted to be a grown-up, start a family, and find someone who was my other half,” Benny shared. “So, I made a list of all the things I wanted in a woman.”
Benny’s list wasn’t just about superficial qualities. He was looking for someone “age appropriate” — and for him, that meant 30 or older. But that was just the start.
“Kindness, compassion, and caring were at the top of the list,” Benny said. “That’s three-in-one, but I really needed someone who was just a genuinely nice person.”
Selena, 32, also opened up during the chat, revealing how her mindset had shifted over time. She had once talked about adopting if she wasn’t married by age 35. But now, she felt differently.
“I’m so lucky to wake up and have a healthy family and friends,” Selena said. “If it doesn’t happen, I’m okay because I’ve always wanted to be a mom.”
Benny’s support has been key for Selena. She explained that when he looks at her, he sees “nothing but what I am,” a rare quality she treasures.
Selena also reflected on the “when you know, you know” saying, admitting, “When you do know, it feels right.” And she’s convinced that’s exactly what happened when she met Benny.
Since June 2023, Benny and Selena have been inseparable, confirming their romance in December 2023 and announcing their engagement in December 2024.
Their love story was captured in their collaborative album I Said I Love You First, released on March 21. The album gives fans a candid glimpse into their relationship, from the early days to their plans for the future.
