Selena Gomez is baring her soul once again.
During a candid chat with Chris Olsen on SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio IRL, the 32-year-old singer and actress delved into the personal struggles that inspired Younger and Hotter Than Me, a track from I Said I Love You First, her latest musical project with fiancé Benny Blanco.
The album kicks off with a deeply nostalgic spoken-word piece—an archival recording of Gomez thanking the cast and crew of Wizards of Waverly Place during her final days as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel hit.
Selena Gomez Can’t Get Enough of Fiancé Benny Blanco’s ‘Addictive’ Traits
Blanco, who unearthed the emotional clip, saw its significance. “It was the last day I was filming Wizards, after over a hundred episodes with people I grew up with,” Gomez reflected. “It was a new beginning, but also the end of a huge chapter in my life.”
Before diving into the vulnerable lyrics of Younger and Hotter Than Me, Gomez expresses the universal fear of being replaced in love. “Benny thought it would be sweet since Younger and Hotter is a reflection of my past insecurities,” she shared. “It was really important to him to tell that story too.”
Olsen, 27, drew a parallel between the album’s opening audio and Gomez’s transformation from a teenage Disney star to an adult navigating fame, love, and self-worth.
“I totally see that connection,” Gomez admitted. “I think every girl, every person, has felt that insecurity—walking into a house or a party and just feeling… less than. I’m not as insecure as I used to be, but there’s always something shinier, something better. And that’s not where my mind should be.”
With I Said I Love You First now out, fans get an intimate glimpse into Gomez’s emotional evolution—and the love story she’s writing with Blanco.
