Vince Gill has some thoughts on whether concertgoers should stand or sit at his shows—and he’s not shy about sharing them!
In a recent chat with the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, the 67-year-old country music legend opened up about the classic concert dilemma. When the host mentioned attending a show in Tulsa where most of the audience stayed seated, Gill couldn’t help but joke, “Well, they’re all old.”
He explained, “A lot of it is people pay so much money for those seats that the last thing they want to do is have somebody standing up in front of them and they can’t see the show.” Still, he acknowledged that there are times when everyone stands up and the energy is just right. “There’s times where everybody’s rocking and everybody gets up, and it’s fine,” he said.
However, Gill isn’t all about standing—especially during those slower, emotional ballads. “All those sweet little ballads and stuff, it’s not the time to do that,” he added with a grin.
When it comes to different crowds, Vince noted that each place has its own vibe. “It’s interesting how crowds are in different parts of the country,” he said. “People are more polite in the Midwest and not as rowdy… Some towns are just all about roaring and partying, and carrying on.”
But at the end of the day, it’s all about the connection with the audience. “When you’re performing, all you want people to do is respond,” he said. And judging by his long career, it’s safe to say that his fans know just how to show their love.
Gill, who made headlines recently for defending Taylor Swift‘s NFL appearances with Travis Kelce, is currently on tour through the end of 2025. After Las Vegas, he’ll hit cities like Nashville, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York City.
