Snoop Dogg is set to release a heartfelt gospel album, Altar Call, honoring the memory of his late mother, Beverly Tate.
The 53-year-old rapper took to Instagram on April 15 to announce the album’s release date—April 27, which would have been Tate’s 74th birthday.
In his post, Snoop shared that the project would “take listeners to church,” revealing the album’s focus on faith and healing.
The album cover features a touching image of Tate in a pink hat and blouse, holding flowers printed on a fan.
The 21-track album will feature collaborations with Jamie Foxx, the Death Row Mass Choir, and more. The first single, titled “Mother I Miss You,” will be released on April 18.
This will be Snoop’s second gospel album, following 2018’s Bible of Love. Reflecting on the inspiration behind Altar Call, he explained, “The spirit of my mother will forever live within me.
This album is a reflection of what she has taught me—to use my voice and platform to spread love and heal the world.”
Tate, who passed away in October 2021, was a church choir director and a major influence in Snoop’s life. The rapper often credits his mother for giving him his iconic nickname, Snoop, after his love for the Peanuts character Snoopy.
The upcoming album promises to be another chapter of love, faith, and family for Snoop.
