The wait is over! The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 has been announced, and it’s packed with music legends who have made a lasting impact on the world of rock and roll.
On Sunday, April 27, during a special episode of American Idol, Ryan Seacrest revealed the big news: seven iconic artists will be inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame. The class includes Bad Company, Chubby Checker, the late Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes. These artists have shaped the music world with their unique styles and unforgettable hits.
For some, like Bad Company, Chubby Checker, and OutKast, this is their very first year on the nomination list. This makes their induction even more special!
During the American Idol episode, 14 talented contestants performed songs from Rock Hall inductees, and the audience voted for their favorites, making for an exciting night full of musical magic.
In addition to the performer inductees, some other musicians will be honored with special awards. Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will receive the Musical Influence Award for their contributions to music that have directly influenced and shaped rock and roll. The Musical Excellence Award will go to Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye, who have made incredible impacts as musicians, songwriters, and producers. Lastly, Lenny Waronker will be awarded the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which honors industry professionals who have helped shape the music world in powerful ways.
John Sykes, the Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, shared his thoughts on the new inductees: “Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of Rock & Roll forever. Their music gave a voice to generations and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”
To be eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, artists must have released their first commercial music 25 years ago, and this year’s inductees are true testaments to the lasting power of their music.
Other notable nominees for this year included the Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis, and Phish. These artists also made waves in the music industry, but only a select few made it to the top this time!
The Class of 2025 will surely go down in history as one of the most exciting groups to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Fans can look forward to celebrating these trailblazers as they take their rightful place in music history!
