In a shocking turn of events, Jillian Lauren-Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police after a tense altercation near their Los Angeles home in the Eagle Rock area. The incident occurred after Lauren-Shriner, 51, allegedly opened fire while pursuing suspects involved in a hit-and-run accident.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the suspect in the crash had fled the scene on foot and was headed into Lauren-Shriner’s neighborhood on Waldo Place.
Lauren-Shriner, who was reportedly armed, confronted the suspects and refused to surrender when ordered by officers. During the standoff, a police officer fired a shot, hitting Lauren-Shriner in the shoulder.
After the confrontation, Lauren-Shriner retreated into her home and later surrendered to authorities. She was taken into custody, and paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department quickly transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was later booked for attempted murder, with a hefty $1 million bail, according to LAPD reports.
The incident is part of a larger situation involving multiple suspects. One of the male suspects was cited and released, while two others remain on the run.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was apprehended by the California Highway Patrol. He was found in a backyard nearby, wearing only his boxer shorts. News reports even described him attempting to take a dip in a pool while tending to plants.
Lauren-Shriner, who gained attention for her memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, published in 2010, previously wrote about her experiences as a guest of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei during the 1990s. She married Scott Shriner in Hawaii in 2005.
This shocking incident comes just days before Weezer’s highly anticipated Coachella performance on April 12, as the band celebrates the 30th anniversary of their iconic Blue Album with a special tour and festival appearances.
