Music legend Carlos Santana gave fans a scare this week when he was rushed to the hospital just before a concert in San Antonio, Texas. The 77-year-old guitarist was getting ready to perform at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday night, April 22, when he suddenly started feeling unwell.
According to a statement from Santana’s team, he was suffering from dehydration. Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management and Santana’s representative, shared the news in an official statement.
“It is with profound disappointment that I have to inform you all that tonight’s show in San Antonio has been postponed,” Vrionis said. “Mr. Santana was at the venue preparing for tonight’s show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration. Out of an abundance of caution and for his health, postponing the show was the best decision.”
Thankfully, the music icon is doing well and is expected to return to the stage soon.
“He is doing well and is looking forward to coming back to San Antonio soon as well as continuing his U.S. Tour,” Vrionis added. “Thank you all very much for your understanding. The show will be rescheduled soon.”
Fans who bought tickets were told to hold onto them, as a new date for the concert will be announced.
This isn’t the first health issue Santana has faced recently. Just a few months ago in January 2025, he broke his finger during a fall at his vacation home in Kauai.
“Carlos was out taking a walk when he took a hard fall and broke his little finger on his left hand,” Vrionis explained back then. “He had to have pins inserted. He couldn’t play guitar for about six weeks.”
Back in July 2022, Santana also collapsed on stage in Michigan because of dehydration and had to be hospitalized.
Even with these challenges, the 10-time Grammy winner is staying positive and full of energy. Known for hits like “Smooth” and “Maria Maria,” Carlos told PEOPLE last year that he doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.
“Everything’s a fun time because there’s still a 7-year-old Carlos in me that looks at life like, ‘What are we going to get into today?’” he said. “I’m just starting, and everything has prepared me for this.”
Fans everywhere are sending their love and support, hoping Santana gets plenty of rest and returns to the stage stronger than ever.
