Why Millie Bobby Brown Missed The Big Stranger Things Broadway Night

by Coco

Broadway just got a little strange in the best way. On Tuesday night, April 22, the brand-new play Stranger Things: The First Shadow opened at New York’s famous Marquis Theatre. It was a star-studded event, with fans and cast members from the Netflix series showing up to support the spooky stage prequel. But one familiar face was missing — Millie Bobby Brown.

Millie, now 21, couldn’t make it to the red carpet because she’s deep into filming her next movie — Enola Holmes 3. That’s right! The star who brought Sherlock Holmes’ sister to life is back on set solving another mystery, this time in sunny Malta. Sounds pretty exciting, right?

Even though Millie couldn’t attend, plenty of her Stranger Things castmates were there to cheer on the new show. Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cara Buono, Matthew Modine, Brett Gelman, and Priah Ferguson all made appearances.

Another cast member, Sadie Sink, didn’t walk the carpet but still got to see a sneak peek of the play the night before. She’s currently performing in her own Broadway show, John Proctor Is the Villain, right across the street!

The First Shadow is a spooky new adventure set way before the Stranger Things story we all know. It takes place in 1959 in Hawkins, Indiana, and follows young versions of characters like Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, Bob Newby, and even Henry Creel — who later becomes the creepy villain Vecna in the show.

The story comes from the brilliant minds behind the Netflix series, including creators Matt and Ross Duffer, and it’s directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin. Writer Kate Trefry, who’s worked on the show since season 2, also wrote the script. “I was really given free rein to go crazy,” she said about creating the new story.

And guess what? The play also connects to the upcoming season 5 of Stranger Things. So fans will want to pay attention!

Even though she wasn’t at the opening, Millie is keeping busy. After playing Enola Holmes in the first two Netflix movies, she’s now filming the third one. This time, Enola is chasing clues in Malta on a super tricky case that’s both personal and dangerous.

The movie brings back fan favorites like Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as their mom Eudoria, and Louis Partridge as Lord Tewkesbury. Plus, there are some new faces in the mix too. The director this time is Philip Barantini, who has worked with writer Jack Thorne before on another Netflix hit.

Millie has had a super busy year already — she starred in the fantasy film Damsel and just wrapped The Electric State, another big Netflix movie.

Sure, fans were sad not to see Millie at the big Broadway night. But with all the cool things she’s working on, it’s clear she’s got a lot going on. Whether it’s in the Upside Down or on the streets of London with Enola Holmes, Millie Bobby Brown always brings the magic.

Stay tuned — we’re pretty sure both Stranger Things and Enola Holmes fans are in for a wild ride.
