Doechii Claps Back At Critics After Met Gala Drama: “God Forbid A Girl Needs More Umbrellas!”

by Coco

Doechii is setting the record straight after a video of her shouting at her team on the way to the Met Gala went viral — and she’s doing it with humor and pride.

The rapper, known for her bold style and fearless energy, had a big moment planned for the 2025 Met Gala. But before she even hit the red carpet, she made headlines for something else — yelling at her team to hide her outfit from paparazzi outside The Mark Hotel.

In a now-viral clip shared on TikTok, Doechii can be seen hiding inside a clothing rack with fabric draped over it while exiting the hotel. “I’m ready. No, stop. Give me another umbrella now — and another. I need more f—— umbrellas,” she says in the video as her team scrambles around her with umbrellas in hand.

Many fans were shocked by her intense tone, but Doechii quickly responded to the drama on Instagram.

On her Instagram Stories, the Grammy winner posted a video of herself laughing with her hands raised, set to The Commodores’ song Easy. The caption? “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas ☂️😂.”

She followed up with a heartfelt message, writing, “And all jokes aside I’m so so so proud of my glam team and the LV team for an incredible night!”

“We’ve been dreaming about this Met for a long time and the theme this year is in such alignment with who I am and what I stand for,” she continued. “It’s nothing but God that this year was our debut. Everyone killed it. We nailed the theme. And a time was had ☂️.”

When she finally stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet, Doechii looked powerful in a custom Louis Vuitton suit designed in collaboration with Pharrell Williams. The theme of the night was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and Doechii made sure her outfit carried meaning.

Speaking to Vogue, she shared that her look was inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, which was also a key reference for the exhibit curated by Andrew Bolton.

“This was personal for me,” Doechii said on the carpet. “We were telling a story.”

It may have been her first time attending the Met Gala, but Doechii made sure no one would forget it. From the umbrella chaos to her meaningful fashion choice, the night was full of moments — some planned, some not.

And while critics may have tried to stir up controversy, Doechii isn’t fazed. She’s laughing it off, standing tall, and proud of what she and her team created.
