Exciting news from the world of music! Jamal Roberts has been crowned the new champion of American Idol Season 23. The thrilling finale aired on Sunday, May 18, and host Ryan Seacrest announced that Jamal won after the biggest finale vote in the show’s history.
Jamal Roberts competed against two other talented singers: John Foster, who finished second, and Breanna Nix, who came in third. To celebrate his big win, Jamal sang a beautiful song called “Her Heart” by Anthony Hamilton, which touched the hearts of everyone watching.
Jamal is not just a singer-he’s also a gym teacher at an elementary school in Mississippi! He first caught the judges’ attention during his audition when he sang “Mary Jane” by Rick James.
Lionel Richie, one of the judges, was impressed. He said, “Man, you got some stuff in there and by the end, you were letting it come out. Just relax. You got the voice and you know how to tell a story. Priceless.”
Luke Bryan loved Jamal’s southern soul style. “Was it perfect? No. But you’re not trying to sing it perfectly and flawless. You’re just singing it from the heart. And that’s what I felt,” Luke said.
Carrie Underwood agreed but told Jamal to add a little more confidence. “You got to loosen up. You need some swagger… Just loosen up and let your body match your voice,” she advised.
All three judges-Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood-gave Jamal a big “yes” after his audition. Ryan Seacrest, the show’s host, was excited to announce Jamal as the winner after such a close competition.
Luke Bryan also shared his thoughts after the semi-finals, saying he had a “gut feeling” Jamal would be a leader all season. He praised the other finalists too but reminded everyone that staying focused is key in the music business.
