Solange Knowles is all smiles after being mentioned by Alicia Keys during her acceptance speech at the 2025 Grammys. Keys, who won the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, named Solange alongside other powerful female producers, including Patrice Rushen, Missy Elliott, Linda Perry, and Grimes.
“Omggg this made me smile so bigggg being mentioned in this lineup,” Solange wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on February 3. “Let me go make some beats lol,” she added, clearly inspired by the moment. Beyoncé, who was seated in the audience, was seen clapping and nodding in agreement as Alicia acknowledged her sister’s contributions to the music industry.
In her powerful speech, Alicia Keys, 44, spoke on the challenges women face in being recognized as producers, and how female producers have long powered the industry. She also expressed gratitude toward Dr. Dre, her brother in creativity, for creating a sound that changed the music landscape.
Solange, 38, had been teasing new music after sharing a studio session photo with producer P’ierre Bourne in January. In a 2024 interview, she hinted at experimenting with tuba music, joking about potential eye rolls from fans eager for new releases.
Elsewhere in her speech, Keys discussed the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in music, addressing political figures like Donald Trump who have been vocal against such policies. She called DEI “a gift” and emphasized that music remains a powerful language uniting diverse voices.
Alicia Keys not only took home the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award but also won a Grammy for best musical theater album for Hell’s Kitchen, a play loosely based on her life. With 17 Grammy wins, Keys continues to make an impact on both music and social change.
