R&B singer Kehlani’s concert at Cornell University has been canceled after controversy over her pro-Palestine views.
The university’s president, Michael I Kotlikoff, said her support for Palestine, including political statements in her music and on social media, caused division on campus.
Kehlani had planned to perform at Cornell’s Slope Day, an annual celebration. However, her music video for “Next 2 U,” featuring Palestinian flags and the phrase “long live the intifada,” sparked backlash. Critics accused her of promoting violence, leading to student protests.
Kehlani, who has supported Palestine publicly, also made headlines in 2024 for her outspoken criticism of Israel, saying “f*** Israel, f*** Zionism.” Kotlikoff explained the decision to cancel was made to protect the campus community and maintain unity.
The cancellation is part of a larger debate over free speech on college campuses, with protests continuing nationwide.
The situation follows similar controversies, including one involving the rap group Kneecap at Coachella. Kehlani’s stance on Palestine remains firm despite the criticism.
