Katy Perry’s concert in Mexico City was truly out of this world.
On April 23, the pop star kicked off her highly anticipated Lifetimes Tour with a bang, performing her first show since her historic journey to space with Blue Origin.
The 40-year-old singer dazzled the crowd with her space-inspired dance moves, sporting a shimmering metallic bodysuit that glinted under the lights. Her futuristic outfits, paired with intergalactic visuals on stage, perfectly set the tone for her interstellar-themed performance.
At one point, Perry took a fun selfie with two fans wearing NASA-branded suits, joking, “I want these gentlemen to come on stage because they are dressed like my most current timeline.”
As she wowed the crowd at the CDMX Arena, Perry couldn’t resist sharing a moment about her recent trip to space. “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?”
she asked the crowd, a reference to her unforgettable flight on April 14. Perry joined a groundbreaking all-female crew aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, including Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, and NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe. The journey saw the women float weightlessly above Earth and the moon before safely returning.
During the mission, Perry even took the opportunity to sing a few lines from What a Wonderful World as she floated in space. Upon landing, she kissed the ground, visibly emotional, with fiancé Orlando Bloom and their 4½-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, cheering her on.
Reflecting on the experience, Perry wrote on Instagram, “One day when you’re older, will YOU still look up in wonder? Still processing this incredible journey ✨.” She also gave a shout-out to Blue Origin for supporting the mission, saying, “Thank you @blueorigin and to my space sisters, taking up space AND making room in space for all – 143.”
Before the mission, Perry had shared her excitement with ELLE, telling the magazine, “Space is going to finally be glam. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”
The singer’s playful attitude towards space travel was met with mixed reactions, with actress Olivia Munn questioning the purpose of such missions. “What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous,” Munn remarked during an appearance on Today.
Despite the criticism, Perry’s space trip didn’t seem to dampen her spirits. In fact, she continues to deliver show-stopping performances as part of her Lifetimes Tour, which will soon travel across the United States, Australia, South America, and Europe.
The tour is expected to be a massive hit, and fans can still get tickets for upcoming shows. So, if you’re looking to catch Perry’s intergalactic vibes live, now’s your chance!
