Taylor Swift‘s friendship with Blake Lively has been through some tough times, but it looks like they’ve weathered the storm.
A source close to Swift tells PEOPLE that the singer was “really hurt” by the ongoing legal battle between Lively and It Ends with Us director and co-star, Justin Baldoni.
The issue started when Baldoni filed a complaint in January, claiming that Lively referred to Swift as one of her “dragons” in a text exchange.
In his complaint, Baldoni alleged that Swift had pressured him into accepting rewrites for the movie, which is based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. These claims brought a lot of attention to the legal issues between Lively and Baldoni. There was even talk about Swift possibly being served with subpoenas as part of the case.
“Blake knew she and Taylor would come back from this at some point and that their friendship wasn’t done for good,” the insider shared. “Taylor was really hurt by this situation, so she’s relieved they were able to recover from this and put it all behind them because it wasn’t something she took lightly.”
Despite the drama, it seems that Taylor and Blake have managed to move past it. Swift, 35, has yet to comment publicly on the situation, but it’s clear that she values her friendship with Lively.
The drama began after Lively sued Baldoni in December, accusing him of sexual harassment and unprofessional behavior on set, followed by a retaliatory smear campaign. Baldoni denied the allegations and filed a countersuit for defamation and extortion in January, targeting Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicity team.
One of Baldoni’s key claims in his countersuit is that Swift and Reynolds, 48, pressured him into accepting changes to the screenplay, which Lively had rewritten. According to Baldoni, during a meeting at Lively and Reynolds’ penthouse, Swift “began praising Lively’s script,” and Baldoni felt the unspoken pressure to go along with the changes.
Afterward, in an alleged text exchange, Baldoni told Lively that her script changes were “so much more fun and interesting,” even jokingly adding an emoji. Lively allegedly responded by comparing herself to Khaleesi from Game of Thrones and calling her husband and Swift her “dragons,” later adding that they were like her “Dance Moms level stage moms.”
Although the legal battle continues to unfold, it seems like Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s strong friendship has overcome this hurdle, much to Swift’s relief.
